There is a high side and a low side port. You need to have gages hooked up to both ports, know what pressures they are reading and what exactly those pressures mean. I would HIGHLY recommend taking it to an A/C shop. Those guys will be able to completely draw out everything you now have in your system, filter it and know exactly how much more if any freon needs to go into your system. They will also be able to tell you if there is a leak in your system before you spend all that money on freon. Another good idea is to make sure that they install dye into the system. Not only does that dye condition all the seals in the system it will also tell were a leak is coming from if one later develops.
