I agree w/ eldoradodave. I owned a 1996 Formula Firebird and I miss that car so much. It was just too exspensive to own at the time for me. I traded it in 2 years after I bought it and it only had 12K miles on it. I felt that the Formula did not have all the extra's on it like a T/A, but it still performed just as good.

If you compare 350Z to Trans Am then we talking about last year of Trans Am 2002 and 2003 first year of 350Z. 350Z= 3.5L V-6 287 HP - 274 FT of Torque,1/4 Mile 14.53@100MPH. Does not have hard launch, good speed once it starts moving, low end torque, short wheel base, light body. Trans Am= 5.7L V-8 - 310HP - 340FT of Torque, 1/4 Mile in 12s/150s. With the V-8, the Trans Am has good low end torque, hard launch, longer wheel base give you better cornering and control,

Stock for stock, they are about equal, with one or the other edging the other in different aspects (cornering, top end acceleration, launch, ect., ect). If you want to make it faster, the GMs will be cheaper to make big power and upgrade the suspension. It's simply a matter of volume. There's a bigger aftermarket for the F-body as it's been around a lot longer and they are a continuation of the 40+ year Muscle car movement. The Z is part of the Tuner Car movement, which hasn't progressed to the cheap, plentiful level of aftermarket support that muscle cars have.

RE:

Firebird vs. Trans Am?

Just what the title says.. Firebird vs. Trans Am. I don't know too much when it comes to Pontiacs, and was wondering what the differences are, or even if there are any at all. Thanks..

firebirds can come with a v6, manual windows, no pwr locks, no ground effects, base suspension, and crappy rims depending on vehicle options. the trans am is the big boy v8, power everyting, performance suspension, better rims, tires, hood (LARGER RAM AIR SCOOPS), and ground effects.

Well now a Trans Am is a firebird on steroids.A firebird Formula is a firebird that is and can be just as good as any Trans Am. The plain jane Firebird can have any eng. from a six banger to a V8 and it can have op. ranging from Bare bones to power everything. A Formula gets a beefed up suspension and a beefed up motor.A true Trans Am has the big Eng,WS6 supension, and wheels with big tires ( course you can get same tires on the Formula. I worked at GM /Norwwod (where the first Camaro/Firebird/Trans Am was built and I can tell you that after driving cars all nite for 12 hrs that I found some Formulas faster than the WS6 trans Ams. For the resale value T/A WS6 op. resales for the most but remember to check out formulas too
