It all depends on what you love Pontiac or Chevy. The Firebird and Camaro are the same platform, the F-body. And pretty much for every Camaro there is an equal Firebird. Like The Trans Am and the SS (super sport)Or the Iroc Z in some generations. The Z28 and the Formula Firebird. The plain old Firebird and the plain old Camaro or in certaint generations the RS (Rally Sport). The RS is just basically a cosmetic package. So it just depends are you a Bowtie Boy or do you worship the Pontiac Dart? As far as if you were talking about fourth generation cars (1993-2002), an equal year Trans Am and an equal year Camaro. The Trans Am would kill the Camaro considering the Trans Am would have the LT1 or the LS1 and the Camaro would have a V-6 Considering it's just a Camaro, not a z28 ect... Personally I love both. I have a 2nd generation 1977 Camaro, a 3rd generation 1991 Camaro, and a 4th generation 1994 Formula Firebird. And as you can tell by my name I love my 94 Formula Bird. Well good luck to you. And remember I don't drive fast I fly low.
I think hithere2ya explained it great. And alot more simple.

It would all depend on which gen. you are talking about 60s-camaro, 70s-camaro, 80-present same exact car, the only plus to the firebird in the 80s was you could get it in a v6 turbo which was pretty cool.

hithere2ya is full of it, it is the same, as in F-body, but especially if you're talking newer models, the engine is totally different. they may both be 350's but a challenge him to find a camaro that came off the showroom floor with 340 hp. ('01 Trans AM WS6)

Both are basically identical as they share common platform, suspension, drive train and body components. The front and rear sheetmetal are the major differences. So pick the style you want, performance will not be noticeably different except if you buy the top performance over the base performance in either model.
