I have a 1995 pontiac firebird. The catilitic converter is rattle when im only idleing in drive. If i idle in N it stops cause of the rpm changes from like 750 to 850. I removed both heatsheilds and its still rattleing. Do you think it will just go away with time or do i need a new cat.

Put the shields back on. You might set your carpeting on fire without them.

Some GMs use loose balls in the catalytic convertor. Some rattling from them may be normal. If you still pass your emissions test, you should be OK for now. If testing isn't required in your area, have a dealer or exhaust tech check it out.

I had a 94 Sunbird that did the EXACT same thing. It doesn't go away. I don't know enought about cars to say that you should get the cat replaced, but I can tell you that problem is there to stay until you diagnose it.

YES ITS BROKEN INSIDE , MAKE SURE U PUT THE HEAT SHIELD BACK ON CAUSE ITS THERE FOR A REASON AND MANY CARS A FIRE ON THE SIDS IF FREEWAYS ARE DUE TO PLUGGED AND OR HEAT SHIELDS REMOVER IT GETS 5,000 DEGREES UNDER NORMAL RUNNING TEMP EXHAUST TEMP SO GET IT REPLACED
