I have a 2007 Chevy impala LT with DIC

I followed these instructions:
1.Insert key and switch the ignition ON (just shy of starting vehicle without starting engine)

2. Press vehicle information button until PRESS TO RELEARN REMOTE KEY is displayed.

3. Press the set/reset button (button will have a checkmark) until REMOTE KEY LEARNING ACTIVE is displayed. Vehicle is now in programming mode.

4. Press and hold LOCK and UNLOCK buttons at the same time on first remote for approximately 15 seconds. An acoustic signal will be heard indicating successful programming.

5. Repeat step 4. to program additional remotes. You can have up to 8 programmed remotes for this vehicle. You must program ALL remotes including existing remotes.

6. To exit programming mode turn ignition OFF, remove key and test all remotes.

When I get to step 3, I don't get the "remote key learning active" message no matter how long I hold the set button, any ideas what's wrong? Maybe the receiver is bad? Should I just go after market?

Visit ikeyless.com. Where did u get those instructions from? The owners manual? Some cars can be programmed by the owner, other car remotes can only be programmed by the dealer. Try calling them and asking.

I tried the above instructions for relearning the key remote for my 2007 impala, and the same thing happens time and time again. the key will learn for about a minuet and I can lock/unlock doors, pop the trunk and arm the alarm and sound off the alarm and turn it off. but after about a minuet or so the remote key ceases to function.

It's as if the memory is volatile and wouldn't hold after a certain amount of time. Of course I have replaced the battery and have attempted to relearn many times but to no prevail. When I got the car used a couple of years ago, it worked fine but I guess over time it became more of an issue to where I'm fed up and want to fix it once and for all.

Also, I can approach the car and try to use the remote and nothing won't work. But if I physically unlock the door with the key and open the door then the remote will start to work for a short time once again.

It seams like the memory won't hold or the X-mitter/receiver is faulty. If I get the remote to work and I arm the alarm, then later I try to unlock the door with the key manually I would expect the alarm would sound off just like other cars I have owned. But even the alarm doesn't hold it's last command state.

I'm at a loss, so it sounds like I may have to spend more money to have a tech fix it un less anyone has an alternative that I haven't tried.

There is an extensive key guide begging on page 89 of your Owner's Manual. Per Onwer's Manual, page 93, it does indicate for the a key would have to be programmed by the dealer to match your vehicle. There is a process outlined in the Pass-Key guide for learning new additional keys on page 110. Below is the GM Owner Center link which will allow you access to certain manual and other such services. Please contact us if you have any questions. I hope all is going well.

Matching Transmitter(s) to Your

Vehicle

Each remote keyless entry transmitter is coded

to prevent another transmitter from unlocking

your vehicle. If a transmitter is lost or stolen,

a replacement can be purchased through your

GM dealer. Remember to bring any additional

transmitters so they can also be re-coded to match

the new transmitter. Once your dealer has coded

the new transmitter, the lost transmitter will not

unlock your vehicle. The vehicle can have a

maximum of eight transmitters matched to it.

See Remote Key under DIC Operation and

Displays on page 191.

From 110

See your dealer/retailer or a locksmith who can

service PASS-Key® III+ to get a new key blank that

is cut exactly as the ignition key that operates

the system.

To program the new additional key:

1. Verify that the new key has a 1 stamped

on it.

2. Insert the original, already programmed, key

in the ignition and start the engine. If the

engine will not start, see your dealer/retailer

for service.

3. After the engine has started, turn the key to

OFF, and remove the key.

4. Insert the new key to be programmed

and turn it to the RUN position within

five seconds of removing the original key.

The security light will turn off once the key has

been programmed.

5. Repeat Steps 1 through 4 if additional keys

are to be programmed.

If you are driving and the security light comes on

and stays on, you may be able to restart your

engine. Your PASS-Key® III+ system, however,

may not be working properly and must be serviced

by your dealer/retailer.

If you lose or damage your PASS-Key® III+ key,

see your dealer/retailer or a locksmith who can

service PASS-Key® III+ to have a new key made.

Do not leave the key or device that disarms or

deactivates the theft deterrent system in the

vehicle.

First guy is not correct. Depending on the model & year. If you can program it with the onboard setup. It isnt illegal.

Also, it being an 2007. You cannot use those instructions to do it. You have to use a Tech 2, that is the only way to program transmitters on the newer cars. GM did away with the push this button while holding that one trick.

You will need to take it to the dealership or to a buddy that has a Tech 2. The aftermarket scan tools will not work since you need to access the BCM(Body Control Module)

It was my understanding that only a dealer can legally program fobs. Where do you get the instructions from? And if you could (which I don't think you can), I would not buy any after market fobs because they are just simply not good quality.
