I always thought it stood for Standard Equipment, meaning it doesn't come with many options and leaves it open for the customers to order what they want...

Haha, just kidding. It means Special Edition. I find with the Grand Am's and the Grand Prix's the SE is always a better looking model. =)

it stands for special edition,the reason they put that on it is because the version of car you have has more options than normal grand -am,s does,good luck with it.
