***EDIT***
JSN.. Cant be a buick olds. or pont. transmission The 82-92 camaros and firebirds all used chevy engines. 4, 6, and 8 cyl. The only one that didnt was the 1989 TTA turbo trans am and it used a buick grand nat' v6
Ok 1st, you want to check to see if you have the right transmission.
The 83 had option of 3 speed auto, 4 speed man, 4 speed auto, and 5 speed man.
The 85 only had a 4 speed auto and 5 speed man.
The 3 sp auto and 4 sp man is not interchangeable with the 4 sp auto or 5 sp man with out changing driveshaft, crossmember, lines, etc
You need 7/16", 1/2", 9/16", 5/8", 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 15mm sockets and wrenchs, extensions, ratchet, vise grips, sloted screwdriver med sized
take driveshaft off at rear end, pull out of trans
Remove torque arm from transmission
place a bottle jack under engine's oil pan with block of wood on top of jack..
Floor jack under transmission pan with wood ontop of jack.
Remove trans cooler lines, shift cable, converter dust sheild. Un bolt torque converter from flexplate on engine.
remove trans mount to crossmember bolt, take trans to engine bolts out,
remove trans crossmember
slide trans back away from engine.. Then let jack down
