350, 400 or 455 fit. Use either one.

"Some of your friends" are too broke and too dumb to give advice about a 455!

I've owned many 455's in my time and NEVER had a problem with cooling, it it does run a little warm, a $40 electric fan on the front of the radiator will cool it just fine, even with the standard 3 core radiator. If want it to cool better, drop a 165 degree thermo in it and get you a 4 core radiator. You should have no problems.

Keep it a true Pontiac!!!!

Uh Lynn, the 4.8 and 5.0 from a thunderbird is a FORD engine not GM

Does it have to be a 1970`s engine, how about moving up to fuel enjection with a 1995 4.8 liter from say a thunderbird. They`re all GM products and I have found the 4.8 or the 5.0 to be very satisfactory as muscle cars go.You may have to marry the same tranny to it.
