I have a 1995 pontiac grand prix SE. The car runs perfectly fine, until it heats up to the first mark on the temperature guage.. when it gets to that point, the car shifts erratically and skips 2nd and 3rd gear. it will also shift back and forth every 2-3 seconds. When I give it gas, the car revs, but sounds more like a Semi-Truck engine, and doesnt go any faster, unless I give it more and more and more gas. But before the car heats up to this point, it runs and shifts perfectly fine. Any suggestions?

i agree with bo but id let a tranny shop look at it first. Does the check engine light come on? There are a few sensors in your tranny and a few solenoids that might cause that. Usually when your tranny goes it just slips. Hope it works out for you

The best transmission would be a replacement for the one that was orginully in the car. There were 2 transmissions available with the 4 cylindar however: The three speed auto that you have, and a 5 speed manual. You can replace it with a 5 speed if you want, it'd be expensive modifying the underhood to accept the manual instead of the auto, aswell as the interior for the gear shift. Or you can go with the 3 speed auto. But it'd be best to go with a replacement auto for what you have, as the ECM is already programmed for the automatic transmission.

you need rebuilt transmission loose all pressure when the trans gets hot check the fluid if it smells burnt then its no good you could try fluid change but more then likely will not work
