The key switch locks and I am unable to start my vehicle. I cannot turn the key. It is not the starter it is the ignition switch. If I move the key (jiggle it) I may be able to get the key to turn and the engine will start. However some times I just put the key in it turns and the vechicle starts. Help still standing.

It could be the key is worn or the switch is worn, or both, try another key if you have one, if you get the same problem then have the switch changed

If you are having the key not move, is the steering wheel turned??? Alot of cars will have the steering wheel in a bind just a little, and the problem is the steering lock. If you have a time when it will not turn, try this, hold a little pressure (try to turn) in the direction the wheels are cut. See if that helps.

If it is not Just that, have you tried a different key??? After almost ten years, it could be worn out. Good Luck

I agree with Duce. I had the same problem with my pontiac sunfire. I took my key to an expert locksmith and the key was cut correctly. Sometime we think that it is the switch when the problem can be that the key is worn down and is not catching in the lock.

Do you have the Pass Key system? If so, your key might be part of the problem! Start there, if a new key doesn't work, try a new ignition switch..

i've got replaced my ignition change two times now by fact of a difficulty like this. Mine led to the AC to drop voltage for a chop up 2d and then it back to well-known. The DIC could additionally reset itself for no reason. After a jointly as, the AC and DIC failed altogether. presently after that, the motor vehicle does no longer initiate. Had the ignition change replaced and all the unusual indicators disappeared. approximately 4 years later all of it began to coach an identical indicators lower back different than this time when I fiddled with the AC fan, the headlights could activate and stale. Had the ignition change replaced lower back previously the motor vehicle did no longer initiate so i ought to stay away from the tow value. It baffled my community restore guy, so I took it to a GM service dept and that they figured it out in under an hour.

Some times when you exit the vehicle you might be pulling on the steering wheel to assist in getting out. The wheel will move slightly and it might be engaging the wheel lock. If this happens the steering wheel has to be moved back and forth as you turn the key to relieve pressure on the lock.
